Saida Wastewater Project: Supervision of construction of treatment works and outfalls, Lebanon The Government of Lebanon, through the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) has developed a program for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the country's water and wastewater sectors. The Republic of Lebanon has received a loan from the Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund, the proceeds of which will be applied to the Saida Wastewater Project. The project comprises the interception of all wastewater discharges within the sub- regional and coastal area of the Caza of Saida and conveyance to a single wastewaster treatment plant. Envirotech in association with Nippon Jogesuido Sekki Co. and Italian Environmental Engineering will provide consultancy services for the supervision of construction of treatment works and outfalls. Slunfeh solid waste project: Supervision of construction of landfill works, Syria Financed by the European Union under the Mediterranean European Development Assistance (MEDA) Regional Indicative Program- Short-term Mediterranean Action Plan (SMAP), the project has been coordinated by Envirotech LTD Beirut and Damascus, and supervised by the Ministry of Environment, Lebanon and the Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs, Syria with the technical assistance of SIDI/EUROECO of Italy. The wide spreading of open dumps across urban areas along the Syrian coastline is a major source of air, surface and groundwater and visual pollution Therefore a demonstrative action which consists on the construction of a small standard controlled dumping site for urban wastes aims to evaluate the future economic use of this measure all along the coastal strip, under consideration. Accordingly, the objectives to be pursued are the following: 1. Avoid any danger and risk to human health;
2. Guarantee the respect of the hygienic and the sanitary norms and avoid any risk of pollution of air, soil and water, as well as any problems regarding noise and odors;
3. Safeguarding the fauna and flora of the area and avoid degradation of surrounding environment;
4. Respect the requests and demands of correct management and territorial planning. In order to fulfill those objectives, Slunfeh site was chosen for the demonstration action and several tasks have been developed by Envirotech. 1. Identification of baseline conditions: selection of controlled dumping site location, identification of stakeholders, waste characterization and quantification, review of existing and future solid waste programs 2. Analysis Phase: conducting an environmental impact assessment, socio-economic and financial study, controlled dumping site design. 3. Supervision: Envirotech has supervised the excavation works, construction of the sanitary landfill including all civil works and HDPE works. 4. Training: Envirotech has prepared a solid waste guidance training manual and a full day seminar that aims to educate and introduce the whole process or technologies to municipalities who can learn and benefit to hold this technology to their villages and apply it for a better environment. Batroun wastewater project: Supervision of construction of treatment works, LebanonFinanced by the European Union under the Mediterranean European Development Assistance (MEDA) Regional Indicative Program- Short-term Mediterranean Action Plan (SMAP), the project has been coordinated by Envirotech LTD Beirut and Damascus, and supervised by the Ministry of Environment, Lebanon and the Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs, Syria with the technical assistance of SIDI/EUROECO of Italy. In Lebanon, wastewater is directly discharged to surface watercourses or the Mediterranean Sea (especially villages on the coastal strip) without any prior treatment or control. This is why; there is an urgent need to improve this current situation through the reduction of pathogens to protect public health and the aesthetic quality of the environment. Therefore a demonstrative action which consists of the establishment of a pilot educational wastewater treatment plant in a specific area on the coastal strip between Jbeil/Amsheet [Lebanon] and Latakia [Syria] was carried out. This demonstrative action should allow us to achieve the following objectives: 1. Realize easy-to-be-operated plant 2. Reduce surface/groundwater pollution 3. Guarantee the reuse of water for irrigation purposes. 4. Train municipalities on wastewater technologies and management.
In order to fulfill those objectives, Batroun site was chosen for the demonstration action and several tasks have been developed by Envirotech. 1. Identification of baseline conditions (Identification of wastewater pollution area, review of existing and future wastewater projects in the area, discussion with local authorities…) 2. Analysis Phase (Conceptual design and budgeting, conducting an environmental impact assessment, preparing tender documents, announcement /evaluation /award of bid) 3. Implementation: Envirotech has supervised the construction of the wastewater treatment plant including all the civil works, construction of the reactor and the placement of HDPE pipe. 4. Training: Envirotech has prepared a wastewater guidance training manual and a full day seminar that aims to educate and introduce the whole process or technologies to municipalities who can learn and benefit to hold this technology to their villages and apply it for a better environment.
