An enhancement of the permanent environmental awareness unit at the Ministry of Environment Lebanon – Envirotech Ltd, MoE, UNDP, EC life 3rd countries

This two-year project will involve creating a coalition of task groups with the Ministry of Environment existing Environmental Awareness Unit through the creation of several sections within the mentioned unit as to cover the following tasks:

  • Conducting a larger number of activities involving environmental clubs, associations, municipalities and schools.

  • Training, monitoring and rating NGO activities

  • Preparing environmental awareness project proposals for funding

  • Working with the local media to address environmental issues

  • Providing technical assistance to appropriate parties

  • Developing an updated website to be used as a forum for change between the ministry and the public

  • Creating and distributing educational manuals, videos, posters, and other paraphernalia

Conservation and Sustainable Use of Agro-Biodiversity in the Drylands - Public Awareness Activities

The Regional Project on “Conservation and Sustainable Use of Agro-Biodiversity in the Drylands” is funded by the Global Environment Fund (GEF), managed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), regionally coordinated by ICARDA and nationally executed by the Lebanese Agriculture Research Institute (LARI). The Project aims at promoting the in-situ and on-farm conservation and sustainable use of the wild relatives and land races of a number of agricultural crops indigenous to this region.

Envirotech is conducting the part of the project concerned with the “Agro-Biodiversity Conservation Awareness Activities”. These awareness activities include the production of leaflets, posters, bi-monthly newsletters, and TV spots. The activities will target the following audiences: rural community and farmers, schools and universities, decision makers, potential national and international donors, private sector, and the general public.

In addition, Envirotech will network with existing local and national environmental school clubs and committees for introducing the project’s activities. It will also organize lectures to be given in schools and universities as well as field trips to the project sites.

Organisation of an Annual International Conference & Exhibition Entitled "Municipal Solid Wastes Management in the Arab Region"- WASTE 2001, Egypt

Envirotech in co-ordination with PROMOTERS planned and organised an International Conference & Exhibition Entitled " Municipal Solid Wastes Management in the Arab Region". The aim of that conference was to bring together all the stakeholders in the solid waste domain in the Arab region enabling them to learn from their common experience and profit from the international know-how.

Envirotech in co-ordination with RAED (regional NGO) planned and organised an International Conference & Exhibition Entitled " Municipal Solid Wastes Management in the Arab Region". The aim of that conference was to bring together all the stakeholders in the solid waste domain in the Arab region enabling them to learn from their common experience and profit from the international know-how.

Emergency Response Planning - Workshop, Lebanon

Envirotech was commissioned by the Royal Netherlands Embassy to organise and conduct a workshop on Emergency Response Planning. Industrial & natural hazards and environmental contamination were the core topics. Public and private organisations participated in the event under the guidance of international experts who assisted in holding the workshop. A live rescue demonstration was prepared and executed on a damaged car accident to assess the capacities of the existing Lebanese rescue teams; and to evaluate the means of collaboration between different active bodies (civil defense, army, Red Cross, fire brigades, police, etc.).
